The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms it guarantees the rights of every citizen in Canada, It is what created an incredible society based on fairness, equity and equality for all. No matter who you are the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms had given you protection and justice. Without the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, there will be absolute chaos all the power will be among the government and Canada will not be recognized for what it is today. The police officer’s action violated the student rights as a Canadian citizen.
In the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, it states that “Everyone has the right to be secure against unreasonable search or seizure” this means it protects reasonable expectation of privacy, those who act on behalf of the government, such as police officers, must carry their duties in a fair and reasonable way. This indicates that police officers cannot enter private properties or take things from people only if before the search they can show that there is clearly a legal reason for it which means obtaining is a warrant(www.dictionary.com:legal authorization to search premises or arrest someone). In the comic “crossing the line” the police officer did not have a warrant, This means the police officer did not have the permission and beforehand the intention to search his locker for catching him with illegal use of drugs.
Without The Charter of Rights and Freedoms, it will ensure a police state(www.dictionary.com: controlled by a political police force that secretly supervises the citizens’ activity) people living in a police state will experience restrictions to their mobility and lack of freedom to express and communicate about there political beliefs or other views. Also, citizens are subjects to police monitoring them. In a police state, police officers can get away with police brutality and arrests due to unnecessary causes. In Canada, police officers are restricted to misconduct or abuse of there power and it is considered breaking the law and any victim of this can sue the officer and if a victim is arrested for an unnecessary reason he can define in court as to why his rights are broken. in the comic “Crossing the line” the police officer demonstrated a close proximity to a police state by arresting him on the spot and used his power without recognizing his rights.

Canada is known for its rights and freedoms people/immigrants come from all around the world to for a better life to have their own identity, all of this is considered due to the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
