Good most important meal of the day? Breakfast

Good morning to our respected and honourable principal, teachers, fellow alumni and students of Sekolah Kebangsaan Bestari. In conjunction with school Entrepreneurship’s day, I as the alumni of the school have been asked to give a speech. Title of my speech is about ‘Why breakfast is the most important meal of the day? Breakfast always described as one of the importance meals of the day.

There is a famous phrase “breakfast like a king, lunch like a king and dinner like a pauper.”(Sifferlin,2013). First of all, I will explain to you what is breakfast? According to Macmillan dictionary, breakfast is the first meal people have in the morning. It would be a bite, a square meal, banquet or even baon, food that is taken in a bag or box to school, to work or on a journey. The role that plays by breakfast is important for human body because according to research, skipping breakfast can make you hungrier and more likely to eat larger meals for lunch yet it will leads to surge in blood sugar. Ladies and gentleman, Firstly, the importance of breakfast is to renew the bodies’ energy. After long hour sleep, eating breakfast can help get through the day.

According to Ayurveda, food is digested well in the morning. Thus, heavy food such as Nasi Lemak, Roti Canai can be had in the morning. Other than that, because our body is constantly using energy like pumping blood during the night, hence fuelling and pampering body in the morning by eating breakfast can sufficient blood sugar levels and prevent you as a student from tiredness and fatigue at school. Do you know? Studies show that children who eat a healthy and good breakfast do better in school than whom not.

Children who eat good breakfast tend to perform well and have a better attendance and decrease hyperactivity. This will give benefits not only to student, but also to teacher to control the class better. Secondly, breakfast is the most important meal of the day because it can help someone to concentrate better. As a student, taking breakfast can help student’s thinking and solving problems skill. When you take breakfast in the morning, you can answer well the questions given by the teacher. Next, breakfast actually a simple secret to tweaking any person’s mood. Have you ever met your friend and him suddenly angry at you? Or did your friend ever forget something he needs to do on that day? Honestly, many people that I met always said that their mood and emotions depends on how well their stomach was on that time.

Any person is sweeter and obviously will less moody if they are not irritated by their growling stomach. Eating a balance and healthy not just can boost up someone’s mood, but it can change someone entirely to become energized and feel fresh. According to Anahad O’Connor in The New York Times on Feb 21, 2006, he said that skipping breakfast not only have a slight, but detectable effect on someone’s memory. Ladies and gentleman,Many people who on diet that I met always skip breakfast. They only eat a small amount of food during lunch or in the evening. Their reason was- to have an ideal weight in short time.

For your information, based on study published by American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, those individual who reported eating breakfast had an overall decreased energy density for the day, a lower BMI and a higher diet quality. This can proof that skipping a breakfast is a no for someone who wants to decrease their weight. In addition, students who skipped breakfast in the morning tend to overeat and have a lower overall diet quality than children who eats breakfast every day. Next, based on the blog that I read, researchers recruited 93 overweight and obese women and put them on prescribed diet for 12 weeks. On that study, all of the women recruited consumed about 1,400 calories a day, but one group had their largest meal at breakfast, while another group had their largest meal at dinner. Regardless that, all participants ate the same healthy foods at their largest meal.

After 12 weeks, women in both groups lost weight. However, those who ate their biggest meal in the morning lost significantly about two and a half times as much as women who ate large dinners. Big-breakfast eaters also saw improvements in other areas, such as belly fat, hunger levels, and fasting blood sugar levels, which is used to test for diabetes. With that, the evidence of breakfast is important meal of the day can be used. Besides that, the reason why breakfast is the most important meal of the day is because it can rev your metabolism. Before anything, I will explain to you what is metabolism.

Metabolism is the process by which your body converts what you eat and drink into energy. So what is the link between breakfast and metabolism? According to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Norris Cotton Cancer Center, eating breakfast can increase your resting metabolism by up to 10 percent.
